Large-scale astronomical data visualization.

Given the increasing amount of data produced in astronomy in Chile and in the world, astronomers are faced with the analysis of large amounts of heterogeneous data. This makes wall-displays particularly useful platforms for viewing this data, as they allow focusing on both details and context, facilitating collaborative work. & Nbsp; In this context, the FITS-OW project was developed, which aimed to provide astronomers (or other scientists interested in astronomy) with an efficient tool for collaborative image research and analysis and for teaching.

FITS-OW

FITS-OW is an application designed to be executed on a wall-display, which allows its users to view and interact with collections of astronomical images in FITS (Flexible Image Transport System) format. Astronomers can view the images in different bandwidths, query external astronomical databases, and upload documents (such as papers or others) to be viewed at the same time as the images.
